The Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, chaired by Frank LoBiondo, will review ‘cruise ship safety and lessons learned from the Costa Concordia accident.’ LoBiondo is a Republican from New Jersey.
An agenda for the hearing was not immediately available.
In an earlier interview for Seatrade Cruise Review, Cruise Lines International Association president and ceo Christine Duffy said she would likely be giving introductory remarks on behalf of the cruise industry, with more technical presentations to be delivered by maritime safety experts.
Seatrade Insider understands the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, chaired by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a Democrat from West Virginia, has also written to cruise lines with questions about cruise ship safety, crew training and hours of work and rest.
A staffer did not have a date for a potential Senate Committee hearing.
