American Cruise Lines touts diverse autumn sailings
American Cruise Lines' Fall Cruise Collection includes offerings on the Columbia and Snake rivers, in Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands, Chesapeake Bay, and the Hudson River.

In October 1805, Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery paddled along the Columbia River on their expedition into the West. Today, the autumn colors and migratory wildlife that Meriwether Lewis described in his journal can be experienced aboard Queen of the West as it follows the expedition's route. Departures are Oct. 18 and 25.

Another option, eight days exploring Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands, sails through hundreds of islands nestled between Canada’s Vancouver Island and the US mainland. Dates are Sept. 27 and Oct. 18.

American Cruise Lines said autumn is a spectacular time to experience Chesapeake Bay, an area rich in maritime history and surrounded by colorful foliage. Along the shoreline are battlefields, monuments, seaports, historic houses and scenic lighthouses. Passengers will visit villages that played crucial roles in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and the Civil War. Departures are Nov. 2 and 8.

A fall foliage cruise along the Hudson River, surrounded by the Catskill Mountains on the western shore and the Taconic and Berkshire Hills to the east, offers history and beauty. The voyage showcases the changing colors and towering mountains for which the Hudson River Valley is noted, while the cities and towns along the way offer some of America's most magnificent architecture. Dates are Oct. 18 and 25.
