Asia is on Norwegian's radar, Sheehan says
For the first time publicly, Norwegian Cruise Line president and CEO Kevin Sheehan indicated Asia has been 'on our radar' and said that, 'over the next year or so, there will be some action from us as far as moving our footprint to be a global player.'

Though the major cruise operators are positioning to capitalize on China's potential as a source market, Norwegian has so far has stayed on the sidelines. As recently as a year ago, when asked about Asia, Sheehan told Seatrade Cruise Review 'We're sticking to our knitting.'

With 13 ships, the line has been focused on the ample opportunity to grow its core business.

'As we get bigger, we'll be looking to those important markets in Asia,' Sheehan told analysts during the company's earnings call Tuesday.

Norwegian's next scheduled capacity growth is late 2015's Norwegian Escape, which is committed to year-round Miami operations, followed by Norwegian Bliss in spring 2017.
