New entertainment director role intended to give cruise directors like Calvyn, left, more time to interact with passengers
With increasing administrative demands on cruise directors that take time away from their role as the 'face and voice' of the ship, Carnival Cruise Lines has created a new shipboard entertainment director position to focus on scheduling and back-of-house activities.

This frees cruise directors to concentrate on their stage work and interaction with passengers.

The entertainment director will be part of the senior shipboard management team and responsible for coordinating programming, scheduling and various administrative duties.

The cruise director will report to the entertainment director.

Butch Begovich, Kevin Noonan and James Charlton of Carnival's guest operations team will be responsible for rolling out the new program which is expected to be fleetwide in approximately two years.

Carnival will be hiring entertainment directors from both its existing workforce and through various recruitment efforts.
