CMV takes delivery of Magellan

CMV takes delivery of Magellan
Cruise & Maritime Voyages has taken delivery of its new flagship Magellan in Genoa.

The former Grand Holiday will reposition to Greece for a docking period before sailing up to the UK for her various launch events and maiden Solar Eclipse & Northern Lights cruise departing March 15.

Whilst a number of changes will be made to enhance some of her facilities, including the new CMV livery, the funnel gull wings will remain attached.

Cruise shipping expert Peter Newell said, 'Thirty years ago the iconic shaped funnel was extensively wind-tunnel tested by her Danish builders Aalborg Værft A/S.  The idea of the gull wings was primarily to stop smoke from falling on either the aft or midships decks when sailing with a following wind so removing them would not be a good idea.' The ship entered service as Holiday for Carnival Cruise Line in 1985.

Chris Coates, commercial director at CMV said, 'The addition of Magellan to our fleet brings a new dimension in cruising to CMV. Since launching Magellan’s programme on  November 3, 2014, we have sold 60% of her capacity which clearly demonstrates the strong demand for our product and smaller ship cruising.'
