Costa cut fuel consumption 6.5% per passenger day over a two-year period
Costa Crociere's newly released sustainability report outlines measures to protect the environment, develop and provide opportunities for employees, strengthen stakeholder relations and enhance the communities where it operates. The report covers 2012 and 2013.

Costa implemented energy-saving measures on board to achieve a substantial 6.5% reduction in fuel consumption per passenger day. This resulted in a 9.9% reduction in sulfur oxide emissions and a 5.8% reduction in nitrogen oxides, along with a 6% decrease in carbon dioxide emissions over the two-year period.

Water consumption was reduced 4.7 % per passenger day.

Costa increased its shoreside personnel numbers 9% in 2013 over 2012, and interviewed 14,286 job candidates, resulting in 10,284 new hires.

Efforts to contribute to communities where Costa operates led to the establishment of the Costa Crociere Foundation, whose projects are detailed at costa-crociere-foundation.com.
