CLIA's Bud Darr will moderate energy efficiency session
Environmental stewardship is high on the agenda across the cruise industry and energy efficiency is a key component. A Cruise Shipping Miami panel will delve into the latest technical advances in energy efficiency on board and ashore in areas such as fuel economy, waste management, recycling and shoreside reception facilities.

The panel will also address the role that class is playing in enhancing energy efficiency on newbuilds and existing tonnage, and the next generation of energy-saving technology. How ports and cruise terminals are focusing on energy efficiency for cruise ship and passenger handling and where improvements can be made will be discussed, too.

Speakers include Joel Perez, vp RX & IWSS field operations, Stericycle; Rich Pruitt, vp safety & environmental stewardship, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.; Mikael Troberg, director of research & technology programs, ship power engines, Wärtsilä Italia; and Michael Vanderbeek, chair, Association of American Port Authorities' Cruise Committee and deputy port director, Massachusetts Port Authority.

The March 18 morning session will be moderated by Bud Darr, svp technical and regulatory Affairs, Cruise Lines International Association.

Cruise Shipping Miami will take place March 16-19 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
