Four new ships lift Carnival group capacity nearly 10% in 18 months
Carnival Corp. & plc said it will increase capacity by nearly 10% with four new ships in fewer than 18 months.

Regal Princess, named Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, has been in service since May, and Costa Diadema will be named Friday in Genoa. In March P&O Cruises will introduce Britannia, the largest ship ever built for the British market. And, next fall, AIDA will add AIDAprima.

This makes a total of four ship additions from May 2014 through October 2015.

Another five Carnival Corp. ships are scheduled to be delivered between 2016 and early 2017.

In addition, the company continues to upgrade and refurbish its existing fleet. In 2015 alone, this entails 17 vessels across six brands.

The work includes converting two former Holland America Line ships transferred to P&O Cruises Australia that will sail as Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden starting in November next year.
