Genoa to host Costa Diadema naming on Nov. 7

Genoa to host Costa Diadema naming on Nov. 7
Costa Crociere selected its home city for the christening of Costa Diadema.

The ship, under construction at Fincantieri's Marghera yard, is to be named at festivities in Genoa on Nov. 7.

Travelers have the unusual opportunity of participating in the ceremony and matching it with the vernissage cruise that will depart from Trieste on Nov. 1, or the first inaugural cruise, from Savona on Nov. 8.

Costa said the selection of Genoa is the latest confirmation of its attachment to the city of its founding, where the company is expanding its presence by opening new offices for about 250 employees in Piazza Piccapietra, next door to the current headquarters. The offices will be open for business this summer.

Costa Diadema is scheduled for delivery on Oct. 30.

Inaugural activities will stretch for a month, encompassing the vernissage cruise on Nov. 1, the christening event on Nov. 7 and three inaugural cruises, Nov. 8, 15 and 22.

For the Nov. 1 cruise, Costa Diadema will overnight at Trieste before sailing to Dubrovnik, Corfu, Malta and Naples, arriving at Genoa Nov. 7 for the christening.

After the vernissage cruise, on Nov. 8 Costa Diadema will embark on the trio of week-long inaugural sailings in the western Mediterranean with ports including Savona, Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Naples, La Spezia and Savona.

From Nov. 29 and for the rest of the 2014/15 winter season, the 132,500gt ship will sail weekly from Savona to Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Naples and La Spezia.
