At inaugural festivities in Amsterdam for a dozen Viking river vessels, Hagen was presented a game board with slots for 100 ships by Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft, the parent company of Neptun Werft where Viking has been building its fast-growing fleet.
A couple years back, Hagen suggested 100 river ships would be a nice number. He's got 64 in operation now. On Tuesday the Viking chief told US reporters six more river vessels will enter service in 2016, and he holds options for 18 more.
But when presented with the game board of 100 slots, Hagen quipped he might need a separate board with 10 slots for his ocean-cruise ambitions.
Viking has been building its ocean ships at Fincantieri.
