‘With a total of 43 ship calls; the Hamburg Cruise Days 2014 and around 125, 000 passengers, August will be the absolute high point of the year,’ said Gerd Drossel, managing director Hamburg Cruise Center.

Along the Elbe river there will be a unique ‘cruise mile’ with numerous culinary highlights, cabaret and entertainment as well as shopping, maritime markets and cultural activities.

Earlier this month, 250,000 people welcomed Queen Mary 2 to the port city as the Cunard vessel celebrated its tenth year in service.

On July 19, ten years ago to the day after its first visit to Hamburg Queen Mary 2 berthed in the Hanseatic city. Back in 2004, the ship was welcomed by more than 500,000 people.

The Cruise Days gathering was first held in 2008 and takes place every two years. However the cycle is being broken next year to create a new ‘Cruise Week’-long focus which sees Seatrade Europe Cruise & River Cruise Convention taking place at Hamburg Messe September 9-11, 2015, followed by Hamburg Cruise Days on September 11-13.
