Iceland Travel prepares for record breaking summer
The first call of Iceland’s 2014 cruise season is Thomson Spirit due to arrive in the port of Akureyri on May 17.

‘Thomson Cruises traditionally excel when it comes to shorex sales in Iceland and 2014 looks to be no exception as already we have received several requests for additional capacities,’ says Liz Gammon, manager of shore excursions and cruise services at Iceland Travel.

She comments, ‘this is a great start to what is set to be Iceland Travel’s biggest and best season to date.’ Gammon  is anticipating over 100,000 guests on tour over the next few months – ‘a land mark for us’, she adds.

For the 2014 season a total of 89 calls have been booked at the port of Reykjavik - 25 of which are overnight. The port anticipates that 98,000 passengers will visit, which is the best season number wise to date. For the coming season the car park at Skarfabakki will be enlarged, redesigned and the logistics improved, both for vehicles and walking traffic.

Meanwhile the port of Akureyri reports that construction at the main berth of Oddeyrarbryggja will be completed by June 1  extending the pier from 200mtr to 240 mtr, with a depth of 9.5mtr.
