L-3 Marine Systems International has been awarded a contract to provide its NACOS Platinum navigation system, including an integrated dynamic positioning system, for the third ship in Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis class, under construction at STX France in Saint-Nazaire.

The 362-mtr long ship, with a capacity of 6,360 passengers and a crew of 2,100, is slated for delivery in spring 2016.

Ulrich Weinreuter, president of L-3 Marine said, ‘We are extremely proud to once again be selected to provide our innovative control systems on Royal Caribbean International’s newest vessels. L-3’s comparable Platinum range of equipment is also installed on RCI’s Quantum of the Seas and two sister ships being built by Meyer Werft.

The navigation equipment for Oasis 3 includes L-3 SAM Electronics’ NACOS Platinum navigation system, comprising five X- and S-band radars linked to 9 Multipilot workstations for the combined display of ARPA radar, ECDIS and conning functions. This unique combination of integrated voyage planning, monitoring and track control significantly reduces the workload for ship navigators and improves navigational safety. The scope of supply is completed by a full set of L-3’s navigation sensors, a compass and steering control system, as well as a GMDSS A3 set.

L-3’s NACOS Platinum series will also include an advanced dynamic positioning system, developed by L-3 Dynamic Positioning & Control Systems, and features four multifunction touch screen consoles, one CP1 DP controller, and interfaces for required environmental and position reference sensors. Positioning software, specifically developed for critical cruise ship station-keeping operations, is designed to significantly reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
