Pride of America makes slight route shift as Hawaii faces 2 hurricanes

Central Pacific Hurricane Center
Iselle is approaching the big island of Hawaii while Julio remains far out at sea
Pride of America will depart Nawiliwili, Kauai, at 7 p.m. Thursday and spend Friday at sea to avoid Hurricane Iselle. But as Norwegian Cruise Line closely monitors the rare double hurricane situation in the Pacific, it still anticipates the ship's Aug. 9 embarkation from Honolulu to take place as scheduled.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu predicts hurricane conditions to reach the Big Island of Hawaii on Thursday, with tropical storm conditions forecast to spread to Maui Thursday night and possibly to Oahu on Friday. Oahu, where Honolulu is located, is under a tropical storm warning.

Iselle's maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph/140 km/h, making it a Category 1 hurricane.

So far, there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect for Hurricane Julio, which strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane overnight. However, forecasters expect Julio to gradually weaken beginning Thursday night and continuing into the weekend.

The long-term projection, subject to change, has Julio nearing the Hawaiian Islands late Saturday night/early Sunday morning.
