Resolve Academy to recreate ship fires, flooding for Damage Control Olympics
Resolve Maritime Academy will host the 13th Annual Damage Control Olympics, an event for officers and damage control crew of US Navy and US Coast Guard vessels visiting Port Everglades during Fleet Week.

Instructors and personnel of the Fort Lauderdale-based academy will lead the April 29 shipboard firefighting and damage control competitions.

US Navy and USCG team members will compete against each other in a series of practical, hands-on training exercises and shipboard emergency response scenarios, including interaction with live fire, smoke filled environments and a flooded ship chamber.

The full-day event is open to media, but not the public, with opening ceremonies beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The Damage Control Olympics are hosted annually by Resolve Maritime Academy in appreciation for the service men and women who work at sea. The program provides them an opportunity to hone skills during drills or training sessions and in live fire situations that are not possible in drills at sea.

Academy instructors will serve as judges for the events that include races using hoses to fight a live fire, a pipe patch drill and a search and rescue drill, among others.
