A group led by Italy's publicly traded oil and gas industry giant Saipem has been selected for the breaking of Costa Concordia, Reuters reports from Rome, adding that the government still needs to sign off on the deal.

The news service said an unnamed source identified T. Mariotti and San Giorgio as others in the group.

Saipem is a large, international turnkey contractor in the oil and gas industry. T. Mariotti and San Giorgio are experienced in cruise ship building, repair and refurbishment.
