Saint John to chalk up 1,000th cruise call in 25 years
Last year New Brunswick's Saint John tallied its 25th year of cruise ships and on Oct. 16 the port will welcome its 1,000th cruise call since 1989.

The ship will be Ruby Princess, making its second call at Port Saint John this year.

'In addition to our festive signature welcome provided to every cruise ship, we have a few special touches in place for Ruby Princess to commemorate this special occasion,' said Betty MacMillan, manager of cruise development for Port Saint John. These items include 1,000th anniversary stickers noting the ship and date on roses that are handed to arriving passengers, a larger banner in the terminal and a presentation on board to the captain.

The port will be presenting the captain a framed photograph of Ruby Princess on its Sept. 26 maiden call. The picture was taken by a local amateur photographer, Jordan McWillams, who enjoys photographing ships in the harbour and sharing them on social media. The port has invited McWilliams to the presentation.

The celebration comes near the end of a busy fall for cruises to Saint John. After Thursday there are still seven ships to call, with Seven Seas Navigator capping the season on Oct. 27.
