Star Cruises plans month-long Independence Day celebrations

Star Cruises plans month-long Independence Day celebrations
Star Cruises plans celebrations for four national days on board its ships during August, commemorating the Independence Day for Singapore (Aug. 9), India (Aug. 15), Indonesia (Aug. 17) and Malaysia (Aug 31).

During the month-long celebration, there will be special culinary offerings and activities, including an Independence Day Celebration Theme Night Buffet, available every weekend. Some of the notable dishes are Singapore’s chili crab, India’s lamb tikka, Indonesia’s ayam penyet pedas (spicy ‘penyet’ chicken) and Malaysia’s ikan panggang (grilled fish).

Plus, the ships' chefs will offer various Independence Day Specialties Promotions.

Special beverages will be available, too, such as India’s masala tea, a blend of fragrant spices with tea and milk, and lassi, the traditional yogurt drink. Tea enthusiasts can also order Malaysia’s teh tarik, which means 'pulled tea,' topped with a foamy layer of milk. When it comes to cocktails, Singapore Sling is among the choices.

Arts and craft activities include learning how to make a traditional shadow puppet with paper and paint, better known to Malaysians and Indonesians as ‘Wayang Kulit,’ or designing a paper Rangoli, an art form widely practiced in India. Also, children can participate in activities like Asian dance lessons and hand art painting.

Music and dance performances include ‘Incredible India,’ ‘Wonderful Indonesia’ and ‘Malaysia’s Truly Asia.’ There will also be Asian theme night parties.
