Star Cruises and the Taiwan Tourism Bureau's Hong Kong office jointly organized an upcoming cruise to Taiwan for 60 underprivileged Hong Kong students. In addition, Star's parent, Genting Hong Kong, will donate 1.5m Taiwan new dollars (US$50,000) to the Social Affairs Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government for the affected residents of the recent gas explosion tragedy in Kaohsiung when SuperStar Virgo arrives there on Thursday.

'Star Cruises’ Dream Voyage to Taiwan' is co-organized by Jetour Charity Foundation Ltd., Hong Kong; Macau Taiwanese Charity Fund Ltd. and The Chinese Society of Applied Psychology. The organizers and school representatives selected students with outstanding academic results from 17 Hong Kong primary schools to join SuperStar Virgo’s three-night Kaohsiung/Taichung cruise from Hong Kong on Aug. 20.

A news conference to launch the initiative was held aboard Star Pisces Monday with student representatives and Hong Kong celebrity Icy Wong, who attended as ambassador. Taiwan’s noted online artist Cherng and popular illustrator Song Song Meow Second were also present. Together, the artists and students presented a painting with messages of love and support that they made together.

Both Taiwanese artists will join the Aug. 20 cruise to lead student workshops about art and illustration techniques.

The students are scheduled to visit the Pier-2 Art Centre in Kaohsiung to learn about Taiwan art culture. They will also visit the Liu-He night market in Kaohsiung and a fruit farm in Taichung to experience Taiwanese nature. Additional activities are team-building motivational classes designed by Dr. Chu of The Chinese Society of Applied Psychology and learning about table manners and handkerchief art on board SuperStar Virgo.
