Tallinn survey shows 88% cruise visitors had not been before
312 cruise ships and 470,000 passengers visited Tallinn in 2014, making it the third most popular cruise destination in the Baltic Sea after Copenhagen and St. Petersburg.

Calls and passenger numbers were down, 9% and 10%,  respectively compared to a year earlier.

A survey conducted during 2014 by the Port of Tallinn revealed that 88% of cruise tourists have not visited Tallinn before. Since 2008 there has been a gradual increase (49% → 63%) of people to whom this cruise is the main vacation of the year.

Cruise tourists spend 4.2 hours in Tallinn on average, during which they mainly have time to visit the Old Town and the city centre resulting in the most memorable attractions named as the medieval Old Town, Nevsky cathedral, Town Hall Square and Toompea. A considerably smaller amount of cruise tourists had time to visit Kadriorg and Pirita.

As the time spent in Tallinn is short, main activities include sightseeing, walking around in town, shopping and visiting cafés and restaurants.

The average passenger spend in Tallinn was €71,  mainly on souvenirs and gifts, as well as on food and beverage.

The experience of visiting Tallinn met the expectations of more than half of the visitors (54%), however, 45% of cruise travellers admitted that visiting Tallinn exceeded or significantly exceeded their pre-travel expectations.
