Tarragona planning new dedicated cruise terminal

Tarragona planning new dedicated cruise terminal
Tarragona Cruise Port located in the Costa Daurada region of Spain is anticipating 8,000 passengers in 2015, a significant increase on the almost 2,000 cruise visitors arriving last year.

Cruise ships of less than 140mtr in length berth at Marina Port Tarraco, located on Tarragona seafront,  or longer vessels can tie alongside at the Levante Dock.

As Tarragona pushes to be one of Mediterranean’s regular cruise destinations, work has begun on building a new dedicated cruise terminal, planned to be operational in 2018.

Consultant Bermello Ajamil & Partners Europe has been contracted to technically assess the drafting of the development plan of the new terminal, envisaged to receive 50,000 cruise passengers a year, in the medium term.

MedCruise member Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada offers access to a wide variety of tourist attractions, from UNESCO World Heritage sites dating to Roman times , to ‘Castells’ or Human Towers, the monastery of Poblet, and Mediterranean gastronomy.

There is an extensive range of wine producers in the area, with five denominations of origin of wine, including Priorat. On the leisure side, the area boasts seven golf courses.

Another popular attraction is PortAventura, one of the Europe’s top theme parks welcoming 4m visitors annually.

In 2016 there are plans to open Costa Daurada Ferrari Land; a new 75,000sq mtr theme park alongside the first Ferrari-themed hotel in the world.
