USCG sets public workshop in Seattle on IMO Polar Code
The US Coast Guard will hold a public workshop Aug. 14 in Seattle about the development of a mandatory code for ships operating in polar waters.

The International Maritime Organization in May approved globally binding regulations for a Polar Code, expected to be adopted in the autumn.

The USCG workshop will address topics including application and certification under the Polar Code, and regulations for hull design, equipment, operations and environmental protection.

These entail the draft Polar Code and related draft amendments to SOLAS and MARPOL.

The meeting is intended to be an exchange of information among policymakers, industry experts and interested members of the public.
