Public comment sought on design concepts for new-look QE2

Seven international design companies have submitted concepts for the new-look interior of QE2, due to be converted into a luxury floating hotel, conference venue and tourist attraction, located in Asia.

Those involved are: British architect and designer Benoy; New York-based BG Studio International Inc; Finland’s dSign Vertti Kivi & Co; Los Angeles- headquartered The Jerde Partnership, Inc; Singapore-based Ong & Ong, Santarossa Contract Marine and Wilson Associates.

Oceanic Group Pte Ltd & QE2 Holdings Ltd are seeking public feedback on the proposed designs and anyone wishing to comment can do so via the site until November 15.

According to Daniel Chui, chief executive, Oceanic Group Pte Ltd & QE2 Holdings Ltd, further consultation with the designers will take place through to the end of November and the contract awarded 'to possibly to one or two designers’ and announced in December.

COSCO’s shipyard in Zhoushan, China has been selected to undertake the transformation of the former Cunard liner into a floating hotel including renovation of the cabins into 400 suites ranging from 60 to 150 sq mtr, plus ballroom, restaurants, lounges, cinema, maritime museum and shops. It is scheduled for completion by 2015.
