Binder, left, and Del Rio - sought provocative, eclectic works
Oceania Cruises published 'The Oceania Cruises Art Collection,' detailing the art and artists featured on board Marina and Riviera. More than 2,000 works adorn the ships.

The 205-page book includes full color images of the works, artist biographies and the story of how Oceania founders Frank Del Rio and Bob Binder personally amassed the collection.

While most cruise lines hire a third party to curate decorative art for their ships, Del Rio and Binder traveled the world to acquire what is said to be a museum-worthy art collection over a period of years.

From masters like Picasso and Miró to the modern art of Robert Mars and Damien Hirst to emerging artists such as Li Domínguez Fong and Carlos Luna, the diverse collection spans eras and genres. In a nod to Del Rio’s Cuban heritage, the collection includes celebrated Cuban artists such as Wifredo Lam, Cundo Bermúdez and René Portocarrero.

Del Rio, chairman and ceo of Oceania's parent company, Prestige Cruise Holdings, called the art 'provocative and eclectic.'

'We weren’t just looking for background music with our on-board collection,' added Binder, vice chairman of Prestige Cruise Holdings. 'We wanted pieces that were bold and interesting, pieces that made a statement, provoked conversation and inspired emotion.'

'The Oceania Cruises Art Collection' is available on Amazon.com and at OceaniaBookCollection.com. It will be available for purchase on board Regatta by the end of September and the rest of the fleet by mid-November.
