The body of a missing passenger from P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Adventure was retrieved from the sea following a massive search and rescue operation 10 nautical miles off Sydney Heads Monday morning.

The ship has been cleared by New South Wales Police to return to port.

Strong winds and rough seas

The search, conducted by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, was hampered by strong winds and rough seas, with four to five metre waves.

Pacific Adventure, which was returning from a three-day round ‘Tribute to The King’ (Elvis Presley) theme cruise and was due to sail again on a four-night cruise to Queensland this afternoon, is not expected to sail until later tonight.

‘Our thoughts are with the family of the guest at this difficult time,’ a company statement said.

As earlier reported, the family of the missing passenger was being cared for by an onboard team.
